CULTURE NEWS

  • Local rock band Ted Hammig and the Campaign — from Fayetteville — will perform at Austin City Limits Music Festival on Oct. 11. U of A students from Hill Records will join the band to network with music professionals.  University of Arkansas
  • The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts has opened an exhibition called Architects of Being today that shows art by immigrant artists Louise Nevelson and Esphyr Slobodkina who turned hardship into creative strength—curator Catherine Walworth will speak about the show on Oct 29 at 6 p.m. and the exhibit runs until Jan 11.  Arkansas Times
  • A new interactive exhibit about Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley opened Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and will run through Jan. 4. The free exhibit—designed by the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and the Emmett Till Interpretive Center—offers interactive displays, video segments and special programs featuring music and traditional food.  Arkansas Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Sarah Sanders joined Google executives, West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon, and Entergy officials for a groundbreaking of a new AI data center in West Memphis yesterday — on 1,100 acres, Google will invest $4 billion through 2027 to build a facility that is set to create thousands of construction jobs, hundreds of permanent roles, and millions in property taxes.  Arkansas Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas Libraries expanded their digital holdings over the summer with new e-books and journals to support teaching, learning and research across campus—resources include O'Reilly for Higher Education, Elsevier All Access Books and an extensive journal archive. These additions give students and faculty immediate access to a broad range of academic materials.  University of Arkansas
  • Next spring, the Honors College will offer three Trajectory courses for law, med and creative studies to help students plan life after graduation—applications are due by Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. as seats are limited.  University of Arkansas
  • Associate professor Theresa Delaplain won first place in the American Prize for Instrumental Performance today after she submitted recordings of her original compositions and album selections; the award honors excellence in musical performance — a significant achievement for her and the music department.  University of Arkansas
  • On Sept. 12, the Women’s Giving Circle at the University of Arkansas awarded $125,000 for nine innovative campus projects and to expand its scholarship endowment. It has supported over $2 million in grants in 23 years, working to boost programs and research across campus & community.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City staffers reviewed initial designs for a new civic plaza building—a five-story mixed-use mass timber structure planned at Dickson Street and West Avenue—that will include a public food hall, flexible commercial space, condominiums, and a rooftop bar. Designers said the plan will be discussed at the Oct. 15 technical plat review meeting so the project can move forward with permitting.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • A nationally recognized religious scholar filed a brief in Fayetteville in support of the Arkansas Ten Commandments law that requires schools to display the Ten Commandments—arguing the law is constitutional and the lawsuit should be dismissed.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas researchers released the first statewide health survey that gathered detailed physical and mental health data from nearly 10,000 Arkansans using new methods — the results will help guide policymakers with census tract-level data available via an online dashboard in early 2026. The survey invited 70,000 people from all 75 counties and is housed in the Arkansas Health Equity and Access Lab.  University of Arkansas
