BUSINESS NEWS

  • Consumers reached a preliminary $85M settlement with Tyson Foods in a class-action lawsuit alleging pork price fixing + the agreement addresses claims that the company manipulated market prices.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The theatre department’s play Twilight Bowl ran on Oct.3, is showing today at 7:30 p.m., and will play on Oct.5 at 2 p.m.—the production tells the story of six women facing major life changes at Global Campus on Fayetteville Square. The play uses personal choices and evolving relationships to explore the impact of time on friendship.  University of Arkansas
  • A new cookbook titled Eat Like the Hogs is available from the University of Arkansas Press— it collects over 250 favorite recipes from Razorback athletes, coaches and staff along with historic photos and personal stories.  University of Arkansas
  • Local country artist Dylan Earl will perform his new album release show for Level-Headed Even Smile today at George’s Majestic Lounge at 8:30 p.m.—tickets cost $17.71 and the show will feature songs with sharp political and personal views. After the show, he will return to the road for dates in the southwest and Europe.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Barbara B. Shadden (emeritus) was named to receive the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s top award for her work in speech-language pathology and aging research; she will get the award in late November at a national convention in Washington, D.C.  University of Arkansas
  • The 2025 Discovery journal from Bumpers College presents eight undergraduate research projects—one study by Malvern graduate Eva Berryhill on canine ehrlichiosis showed infection rates in dogs were 22% to 23% in 2023 and 2024—with findings that indicate rates were about 3% higher than in earlier research.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fayetteville Fire Department is asking residents to take an online survey to share their thoughts on fire and rescue services. The survey asks about past service use, satisfaction and emergency communication preferences—responses are anonymous.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Farmland Adventures in Springdale celebrated its 15th anniversary under new leadership as Eleni and Trey Parsons took over the family farm where visitors enjoyed a themed corn maze, u-pick flower fields and a cow feeding experience. The farm is open Fridays, Saturdays and selected Thursdays in October with online admission starting at $16.50 and free entry for children 2 and under.  5 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A developer submitted plans for the Meadow Valley Trail student housing project on 15 acres where West Elm Street ends near North Leverett Avenue, featuring five buildings with 273 units, 630 bedrooms, surface parking, and a central courtyard. City staff tabled the plan during a review and will meet again on Oct. 15, while construction is planned to start in spring or summer 2026—Razorback Housing owns the vacant property and Crafton Tull designed the project.  Fayetteville Flyer
