ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, the University of Arkansas partnered with industry and nonprofit groups to launch the Arkansas Lithium Technology Accelerator, America’s first program for lithium innovation + battery supply chain. The accelerator hosted its first cohort with companies Telescope Innovations, RAM Geothermal, and Nano One and will select a second cohort at the Arkansas Lithium Innovation Summit on Oct. 28-29 + boosting local economic growth.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arkansas faith groups help students share their beliefs and form strong bonds on campus. Groups such as Delight Ministries, Hillel, AI-Islam and NWA Pagans meet regularly—offering safe spaces for diverse traditions.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • The U of A Bookstore is now hiring student workers with flexible scheduling—applicants can gain hands-on experience in customer service, merchandising and game-day operations right on campus. Interested students are encouraged to apply today to build their skills.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville city officials held a Tuesday evening meeting to seek public input on holding an election for a one-cent sales tax extension that would fund a $320,100,000 bond for water, sewer, road, park, and facility upgrades – if approved, residents will vote on the tax extension on March 3rd to support new amenities like an aquatic center and energy-efficient animal shelter. Further discussions will gather input to shape the city's infrastructure improvements.  4029 News
  • Fayetteville City Council approved a resolution Tuesday encouraging safe gun storage after high school students from Students Demand Action proposed that local agencies and community groups educate parents about secure storage practices—aiming to keep firearms out of the wrong hands. The council also approved a rezoning request for a planned development near Dot Tipton with amendments addressing road and fire access issues—although residents continue to worry about higher traffic and infrastructure strain.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Fayetteville officials on Tuesday endorsed a proposal to spend about $500,000 in county money to fund the Returning Home community alternative program. They also raised pay for the planning board.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Yesterday, Fayetteville City Council approved a resolution that encourages safe gun storage after high school students proposed that city agencies educate parents and guardians about securely storing firearms—helping prevent accidental access. The council also approved a rezoning amendment for a planned neighborhood development near North Double Springs Road and West Dot Tipton Road with a tie-breaking vote from Mayor Molly Rawn—city staff noted concerns over infrastructure and public safety before the next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at City Hall.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Xuan Zhuang—an associate professor at UA—was awarded $2 million on Oct. 7 from the National Institutes of Health to study how genes and the environment affect health. She will use fruit flies in tests with high sugar and high fat diets to reveal how genetic differences influence traits linked to metabolic diseases.  NWA Business Journal

  • The Fayetteville Lady Purple Bulldogs beat Fort Smith Southside 25-15, 14-25, 33-31, 28-26 in a 6A-West Conference match on Tuesday night at Bulldog Arena—after playing marathon sets—securing their win.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Local sports expert Matt Jones and Christina Long reported that the Razorbacks’ NIL collective, Arkansas Edge, has closed — they also reviewed SEC football efficiency ratings through Week 6 for local fans.
