BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Collective, an upscale restaurant and bar at 216 W. Dickson St., opened in Fayetteville through a collaboration between brothers Don and William Ray and restaurateur Chris Tanner. It offers dinner from 5-10 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and will add lunch and weekend brunch soon—adjacent to Ben’s Apartment, a 1920s-inspired speakeasy with limited membership.  NWA Business Journal
  • Entrepreneur Kristen Dunning will pitch her flower-based skincare line Gently Soaps to Walmart and Sam’s Club merchants at the annual Open Call event in Bentonville this week—it follows her Shark Tank deal and Oprah recognition and gives about 600 entrepreneurs one-on-one mentoring to help bring products to store shelves and online.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fayetteville leaders plan to ask voters in March to approve a $320.1 million bond that will fund water and sewer, roads, parks, an aquatic center, and other needed projects while keeping the current 1% sales tax; council members debated a housing amendment, but a tied vote left it off the proposal — city officials say the bond will support essential infrastructure and current housing efforts.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Northwest Arkansas will receive over $3 million in federal funds for alternative transportation and recreational trails projects, as announced by the Arkansas Department of Transportation. The projects—covering sidewalk and trail improvements in Benton, Madison and Washington counties as well as a rehabilitation project in Springdale—will boost nonmotorized travel options.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sidney Bowman has joined the College of Engineering as its first embedded mental health clinician—she offers support to help engineering students manage stress, with the new role part of Engineering One-Stop. The position works with Student Affairs and Counseling & Psychological Services to provide care tailored to the unique pressures of the program.  University of Arkansas

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas punter Devin Bale worked hard from a walk-on to become a team captain for the Razorbacks—he set an 84-yard punt record and made a key tackle against a top team. He joined the Ray Guy Award Watch List and continues to lead with determination.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Arkansas head coach John Calipari said his Razorbacks second offseason has been smoother with six returning players, seven top freshmen and two transfers boosting the team. The team will play an exhibition on Oct. 24 at Bud Walton Arena and open against Southern on Nov. 3—Calipari expects the improved depth to let them play faster.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Arkansas volleyball head coach Jason Watson begins his 10th season leading the team while he builds a program that has earned nine NCAA tournament selections—he started his career in Australia and now helps players grow both on and off the court. Watson plans to push his young team to extend their postseason run in the next season.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Arkansas Baseball finished its Fall Classic and now prepares for the 2026 season with tough battles for starting roles. Key players such as catcher Ryder Helfrick and first baseman Reese Robinett will vie for spots on the field—each eager to earn a place in the lineup.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • The Fayetteville Lady Purple Bulldogs outlasted Fort Smith Southside in a marathon 6A-West Conference volleyball match at Bulldog Arena Tuesday night with scores of 25-15, 14-25, 33-31, 28-26 — the team had to work hard in two long sets after winning the opener.   • Colby Hale turned Arkansas soccer into a winning team when he became head coach in December 2011. He led the Razorbacks to their first NCAA Tournament win in 2013 and built a culture with multiple SEC titles and deep tournament runs.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Coach Kelsi Musick took over as head coach for the Lady Hogs after Mike Neighbors stepped down—she uses a fast offense with new and returning players to aim for a better record. The team will play its first game on Oct. 30 at Bud Walton Arena against University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • After a start of 2 to 3 and a 56 to 13 loss to Notre Dame, athletic director Hunter Yurachek fired head coach Sam Pittman. Former coach Bobby Petrino is named interim and will lead the Razorbacks for the final seven games—staff changes have already been announced.  The Arkansas Traveler
