BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Scott Family Amazeum in Bentonville and Northwest Arkansas National Airport are planning a $250,000 play space to turn a former moving walkway into a fun area for children up to 12 and their caregivers—featuring an air traffic control tower and interactive science exhibits—and the project will open later this year. The new space will offer hands-on activities that spark curiosity and celebrate the wonder of flight.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local writer and community leader Julia Paganelli Marin is hosting Bee Balm Poetry Week today through October 18 with workshops, readings and feedback sessions at places like Underbrush Books, the Fayetteville Public Library, Perrodin Supply Co and The Graduate Hotel. The week will feature a book signing by Randall James Tyrone and a poetry slam at Word Coffee to connect local writers.  Fayetteville Flyer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Supreme Court released its opinions on Oct. 9 — the rulings from Miller County Circuit Court cases, including Nathaniel Fort v. State and Cornell Brown v. State, were affirmed. Full opinions and related court orders are available online.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Chickamauga Nation members said they will keep their treaty rights to the Franklin County land chosen for a 3,000-bed prison at Mill Creek Mountain—raising concerns over possible ancestral graves and artifacts. They will work with state officials as next steps depend on improved communication from the government.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Attorney General said lawmakers cannot restore funds from 43 municipalities without first expunging the July vote to withhold the money because the required water and sewer audits were not submitted. Sen. Dave Wallace and Rep. Robin Lundstrum are considering next steps—an expungement could allow state treasurer John Thurston to release the funds retroactively.  Arkansas Times

  • Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino is focusing on basic alignment and tackling during practice as the Razorbacks prepare to play No. 12 Tennessee tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. Central.   • Arkansas women’s basketball head coach Kelsi Musick, who came from Oral Roberts with a record of 57–39, held the team’s first practice on Sept. 9 to rebrand the Lady Hoop Hogs after six players entered the transfer portal—her new method focusing on faith, family, and fearless play will be on display in the exhibition game on Oct. 30 against University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.  The Arkansas Traveler
  • Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn held a press conference today to discuss his exhibition games in Little Rock on Friday and in Dallas Baptist on Saturday—he detailed the matchups and team strategies.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The No. 7 Arkansas women’s soccer team (ending a four-game SEC win streak) drew 2-2 against South Carolina on Oct 2 in Columbia and then rallied for a 4-2 comeback win over Mississippi State Sunday evening at Razorback Field. Coach Colby Hale said the win (which erased an early 2-0 deficit) set the team atop SEC standings with 13 points as they prepare to train hard on Wednesday.  The Arkansas Traveler
