COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local clubs in Benton County are hosting meetings and events in October. On Oct. 4, Boy Scouts Troop 102 (led by Cody Villar) retired seven cotton and 10 polyester flags at the Fayetteville/Springdale Elks Lodge, with polyester flags set for separate disposal by an American Legion member.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Childhood friends Casey Jo Clark, diagnosed with breast cancer, and Maegan Waldrip, who experienced a miscarriage, are co-chairing Monster Bash — the annual spooky soiree benefiting Home for Healing — after they learned of their hardships on the same day.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Friends of Palestine NWA held a vigil Saturday on the steps of Fayetteville Town Center—reading nearly 20,000 names of Palestinian children killed since Oct. 7 to honor their lives and call for lasting peace amid an ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Organizer Jesse Buchanan said the event helped connect local Arkansans with the plight of those affected by the conflict.  4029 News

  • Fayetteville will host 'A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical' from October 14th to October 19th — Nick Fradiani, who first saw Neil Diamond as a toddler, performs the iconic hits on stage.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Marcus King Band will perform at Ozark Music Hall on Oct. 19 as part of The Darling Blue Tour — they are supporting their first studio album since 2018 titled Darling Blue which features songs such as Honky Tonk Hell, Carry Me Home and Carolina Honey.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Harvard study says that Arkansas has improved its tracking of student data from its high-impact tutoring program by verifying 98% of records in the 2024-25 school year after earlier challenges. The state has updated its data system so that it will receive tutoring information directly for better analysis during the 2025-26 school year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Former Arkansas football coach Sam Pittman has listed his Fayetteville home in Bridgewater Estates for $4 million. The 7,200-square-foot Mediterranean-style house, built in 2013, sits on 3.8 acres and features a saltwater pool (plus a guest house and five-car garage) that may interest local buyers.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • Arkansas Razorbacks, led by interim head coach Bobby Petrino in his first game back, lost 34-31 to No. 12 Tennessee at Neyland Stadium (in Knoxville) yesterday.
