- ➤ Applications are now open for the 2025 RazorGifts Staff Holiday Gifting Program that helps U of A staff provide holiday gifts for household children under 18—only employees living with their immediate family qualify. - ➤ Chy'Na Nellon became assistant director of Learning Innovation and Assessment and started teaching a new Black Digital Storytelling course for African and African American Studies students using virtual and augmented reality—she links her digital humanities research with innovative methods to boost student engagement and retention. - ➤ Arkansas high school seniors and transfer students can apply for free to the University of Arkansas from today through October 26 as part of the Office of Admissions’ annual Free Application Days event — the university will cover the application fee. University of Arkansas
- ➤ The Speech and Debate Society from the University of Arkansas won 18 awards at the StarkVegas Debate Invitational held from Oct. 10th to Oct. 12th at Mississippi State University. The team earned top honors including 3rd place Team IPDA Sweepstakes & the Legendary Silver Cowbell of Victory with a 7% win margin. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Students planning to live off campus next year can attend a free housing fair on Oct. 28 at the Arkansas Union Verizon Ballroom (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Local property managers and campus partners (including Chartwells Dining Services and Legal Aid of Arkansas) will provide key tips on leases, meal plans and housing options. University of Arkansas
- ➤ The Italian Program will host singer-songwriter Teo Bok at Giffels Auditorium in Old Main on Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and he will present in English with performances in Italian, English and Spanish—part of the 25th annual Week of the Italian Language in the World aimed at using music to enhance learning. - ➤ Adam R. Pope's developmental editing course (ENGL 36003) is asking for short fiction works like short stories and novellas to use in the course this fall. The class teaches students to improve text flow, structure, and market fit, and anyone with questions may email Pope. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Lexi Workman-Avent has been named associate director of creative services at the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and joins the college communications team—she brings digital communications expertise and four years of experience from the Department of Animal Science. - ➤ Jeyam Subbiah has been appointed as associate vice chancellor for research development at the University of Arkansas, where he will strengthen research centers and provide tools and training to help researchers thrive (he previously led the Department of Food Science and directs a multidisciplinary research center). - ➤ University of Arkansas alumnus G.T. Karber explained in Short Takes: The Man Behind Murdle how his award-winning murder mystery puzzle series began from a napkin sketch while he studied at the Honors College. Karber— a Fort Smith native and creative writer— has expanded his puzzles into books, board games, and plans for a television series. University of Arkansas
