- ➤ Local restaurateurs Todd and Nickki Golden are turning a former service station on Nelson Hackett Boulevard into Big Daddy’s Burgers — a simple spot offering burgers, fries, shakes and Hugs ice cream with seating for dine-in or carry-out. - ➤ Finn McKinley, a fourth-year doctoral student at Sam M. Walton College of Business, won a $10,000 award in a dissertation competition sponsored by Deloitte and organized by Texas A&M University. He presented his proposal on October 17 in College Station, Texas — his work examines how AI is used to improve retail demand and supply chain management. University of Arkansas

- ➤ A Halloween market called So Gay, It's Scary will be held Saturday, October 25 from 6-9 p.m. at Pettaway Square at 408 E. 21st St., where local vendors will sell art, costumes, and drinks for free to offer a safe celebration for the queer community. Arkansas Times

- ➤ Adelheid Voskuhl from the University of Pennsylvania will deliver her free Honors Mic lecture “Engineering Institutions: Machines, Government, and Social Elites in Industrial Revolutions” at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 in GEAR 26 — where she examines how engineers shaped machines and society and discusses their impact locally. - ➤ The College of Education and Health Professions traveled nearly 700 miles on a WE CARE-A-VAN tour in Northeast Arkansas to meet with educators, clinic staff, and community partners — the tour included visits to family child care homes, classrooms at Cross County schools, a steel mill in Osceola, and a reception at the Jonesboro Country Club to showcase its commitment to Arkansas excellence. - ➤ University of Arkansas alumni Bill and Sylvia Goodyear donated $25,000 to create a new scholarship endowment that will help Arkansas students from all 75 counties pay for college and get mentoring. The endowment is part of a three-year campaign to boost education access and honor the couple’s strong ties to Fayetteville—helping more students succeed—by providing financial aid and career guidance.
