  • Washington County residents hired an attorney to oppose a proposed concrete mixing plant near Bob Kidd Lake just outside Prairie Grove—local families worry the project could change their community.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • School Board members reviewed new plans for Ramay Junior High that include added road links and a 7-acre parcel — the design now moves athletic spaces to the south side of the building. The district will close on the extra land once rezoning is approved at the Planning Commission meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at City Hall.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Global Campus will host the Better Learning Together conference on Wednesday, Oct.29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. via Teams. The event will feature hour-long sessions and panels on artificial intelligence for educators—program coordinators and instructors are invited to join—marking a lead-up to National Distance Learning Week.  University of Arkansas
  • Professor Remko van Hoek received the 2025 Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals at the EDGE conference (October 5 to 8) and was inducted into the Supply Chain Hall of Fame for his work in supply chain management.  University of Arkansas
  • U of A alumna Debbie Shearer King and her husband William committed $50,000 to the Land of Opportunity Scholarship endowment to help Arkansas students cover college costs. The gift is part of a three-year plan started in November 2024 to fill a funding gap and let students from all 75 counties pay for school — it aims to ease student debt and boost academic success.  University of Arkansas
  • Lynn Meade, a teaching associate professor from Fulbright College Student Success, delivered a keynote titled 'Storytelling—Leveraging Your Superpower' at the Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in Traverse City, Michigan this October—she urged teachers to use personal stories to connect with students and improve learning.  University of Arkansas
  • The Office of Transition Programs and Initiatives is hosting First-Generation Student Week from Nov 3—7 to honor National First-Generation Student Day on Nov 8. About 25% of U of A students are first-generation—Skyler Ames-Patton is available for questions.  University of Arkansas

  • Dr. Yizhi Sun from the U of A will speak at 10:45 a.m. in BELL 2267 on Oct. 29 to share key findings on how fat cells burn energy and how mitochondria work with proteins to control energy use. His talk may lead to new research on better ways to treat obesity, diabetes and cancer.  University of Arkansas
  • Pat Walker Health Center is hosting its annual Stick and Treat flu shot clinic on Friday, Oct. 31 from 12 to 3:30 p.m. in its atrium, where U of A students, faculty and staff can get their vaccine on a first-come basis + receive Halloween treats.  University of Arkansas
