BUSINESS NEWS

  • University of Arkansas professor Remko van Hoek received the 2025 Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and was inducted into the Supply Chain Hall of Fame, the industry's highest honor. He brings over 20 years of expertise (including roles at Disney, Nike, and PwC) and his work is widely cited in top business reviews (such as Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review).  NWA Business Journal
  • Tontitown-based PAMT Corp. reported a $5.6 million loss on Tuesday — marking its fourth consecutive quarterly loss as revenue dropped 17% to $150.26 million compared to last year. CULTURE NEWS

  • The U of A Museum announced its fall collection tours provided by volunteer guides who share their expertise about the museum's collections — group tours are set for November and custom tours can be requested through spring. The program is part of the museum's 2025-26 Guide initiative and invites community members to sign up now.  University of Arkansas
  • Fayetteville Parks and Recreation will kick off the annual Lights of the Ozarks display with a Light Night ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21 and a parade on Dec. 4 featuring local floats + Santa. The holiday lights will be visible each evening from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. through Jan. 1.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas tested a full-scale steel beam using a hydraulic actuator that applied 180,000 pounds of force in its 13,000-square-foot lab at the Grady E. Harvell Civil Engineering Research and Education Center—research that may help engineers design stronger bridges and buildings to better withstand earthquakes along the New Madrid Fault. The test provided vital data in efforts to improve regional earthquake preparedness.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Dennis Mason, a long-time teacher and poultry judging coach, passed away Oct 18 in Springdale at 75. He spent 32 years teaching agriculture + coached the U of A team for 20 years + inspired more than 2,200 FFA students.  University of Arkansas
  • On Tuesday, a panel of child care experts recommended changes for the Department of Education to adjust reimbursements and copayments and prevent 400 layoffs at 250 child care centers in 50 counties—steps meant to sustain care for 16,000 children. The group said the $28 million plan will support providers for eight weeks and the department will decide on next steps by the end of the week.  Arkansas Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that 12 Northwest Arkansas projects will get a total of $3.01 million from the Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails programs—funded by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—to improve trails, sidewalks, and paths. Fayetteville will use $250,000 to replace pavement on the Razorback Greenway as part of planned upgrades in 2025.  NWA Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hope Cancer Resources Foundation received a $1.5 million donation from the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation on (Oct. 27) to boost patient transportation for cancer treatment in Northwest Arkansas. The endowment will help more patients from surrounding counties reach their care appointments.  NWA Business Journal
  • Arkansans dropped off 26,500 pounds of expired and unwanted prescription medication at 375 collection sites across all 75 counties during Saturday's Drug Take Back Day. Law enforcement and community partners worked together to reduce prescription misuse — protecting public health.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The Arkansas Razorbacks held an indoor Zoom session Tuesday at Walker Pavilion to prepare for Saturday’s 3 p.m. Mississippi State game — players and coaches stressed the need to boost physical play and special teams performance amid a six-game losing streak.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Rex Nelson shared his college football picks for Week 10 after Auburn’s comeback win in Fayetteville—he said the Razorbacks will face a tough game against Mississippi State and other teams in close contests.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Hometown player Billy Richmond III led Arkansas to a 99—75 exhibition win over Memphis on Monday with two key three-pointers that tied the game at 51, sparking a comeback. Arkansas will open the season Monday at 6 p.m. against Southern at Bud Walton Arena on SEC Network.  The Arkansas Traveler
