CULTURE NEWS

  • On November 13 at 5:30 p.m., the University of Arkansas School of Art will host acclaimed filmmaker Sky Hopinka for a free lecture at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center—he will share selections from his films and photographs and lead a Q&A on Indigenous art and culture.  University of Arkansas
  • Tusk VII was born on September 17th at 2 pounds, 8 ounces in Dardanelle and will spend his first year at the Stokes Family Farm learning from his father before taking over as the live Razorback mascot in 2026—continuing a cherished tradition. The Stokes family has cared for the program since 2006 and remains dedicated to the Razorback legacy.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas School of Art has extended its free ticket promotion for the Crystal Bridges exhibition until Dec. 31 — faculty, staff and students can reserve up to two tickets using their UARK email and promo code UAGAME. The school also offers transportation funding to support campus groups visiting the museum and the Momentary.  University of Arkansas
  • Assistant and associate professors may apply for travel assistance if they are presenting original scholarship as the primary author at a professional conference or creative exhibition. Up to 20 faculty members can receive up to $700 each if selected—applications close Dec. 5 for travel scheduled Jan. 1 to June 30.  University of Arkansas
  • The University of Arkansas’ Global Campus posted recordings from its October 29 Better Learning Together conference that focused on online teaching tools and strategies—several sessions featured a panel on artificial intelligence led by Chase Rainwater. The recordings are now available online for instructors and coordinators to review.  University of Arkansas
  • University of Arkansas alumnus Bill “Hawk” Clement has given $125,000 to the Land of Opportunity Scholarship to help Arkansas students with college costs—his donation will support more students in finishing school and beginning their careers. The gift is part of a three-year campaign to expand educational opportunities across the state—providing financial relief that will boost graduation rates.  University of Arkansas
  • University of Arkansas mechanical engineer Neelakshi Majumdar appears in the Discover RED video to show how her lab develops tools to help pilots recover when control is lost because of weather—mechanical issues—and human error. Her research—aiming to reduce accident risks—will improve general aviation safety.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Fayetteville, in partnership with Springdale and the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad, is asking residents to give feedback on plans to improve safety at eight railroad crossings. Comments can be submitted online until Dec. 11 or at open houses on Nov. 10 in Springdale and Nov. 12 at Fayetteville City Hall—residents’ input will finalize recommendations—setting the stage for future design and construction projects.  City of Fayetteville
  • Fayetteville City Council unanimously voted to rezone 33 acres on Raven Lane near Underwood Park for the Next Chapter project that will build over 270 single-family homes on a 49-acre site. The development will include 276 rental units and shared amenities — such as a pool and playground — targeted at residents 55 and older and young professionals.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Today, the city began managing two privately owned parking lots at the Bakery Building at 313 W. Dickson St.—the lots offer 49 spaces available daily from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. with hourly rates of $1 to $3 paid through the ParkMobile app using license plate numbers.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
