COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fayetteville's weekend guide features events from today through November 9 including sports games at Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill Arena, live music at local venues, and the return of the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m.—all planned for community enjoyment.  5 News
  • The 5NEWS Weekend Guide lists events for November 7 to 9 across Northwest Arkansas—featuring family-friendly activities, live music and outdoor adventures in Springdale, Bentonville and nearby towns. Fayetteville residents can look forward to exploring local farmers markets and special fundraisers for an active weekend.  5 News
  • Fayetteville will honor Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11 with a parade on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. along N. East Ave. down Dickson St. then turning onto N. West Ave. and ending at W. Spring St — a Veterans Trade Show will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and city offices will close on the holiday while trash services remain on schedule.  City of Fayetteville

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fayetteville’s Arvest Bank changed leadership when CEO Kevin Sabin retired on Nov 1 & president Matt Machen will take over the role to lead the bank's overall strategy. Chief banking operations officer Yurik Paroubek has also been named chief operating officer to oversee banking operations while Sabin remains on the board.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Winter Little Craft Show will be held on Nov.15 in Fayetteville—letting shoppers find unique gifts from local vendors. Also on Nov.15, a staged reading of Larissa FastHorse’s 'The Thanksgiving Play' will run at TheatreSquared from 5 to 7 p.m. with advance tickets at $5 and $10 at the door.  The Free Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U of A has joined the Google AI for Education Accelerator program to offer free AI training and career certificates to students, staff and faculty. The program will provide courses in areas like data analytics and cybersecurity—details on access and new AI tools will be shared soon.  University of Arkansas
  • More than 200 students, donors and friends met at Walton Arts Center for the annual luncheon hosted by the college—158 students received $877,170 in scholarships to become teachers, nurses and other caring professionals. Dean Kate Mamiseishvili and speakers said each donation helps change lives by giving future educators and healthcare workers the support they need.  University of Arkansas
  • Sean Dempsey, an associate professor of literary studies at the University of Arkansas, will give a free lecture on Jane Austen and Comedy at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 in the Walker Community Room at the Fayetteville Public Library—he will use humor to show how Austen's novels teach about life.  University of Arkansas
  • The Fayetteville Public Library received gifts of $1 million from John and Barbara Tyson and $90,000 from Jim and Nancy Blair last week to create an endowment for the Blair Notable Author Series—this fund will generate annual income to support free talks and discussions by visiting authors. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas DHS said it will provide SNAP benefits as quickly as possible—no issuance date has been set—while plans to close county offices and furlough 1,500 workers will not occur before Nov. 22 if the shutdown continues. State agencies and local food pantries are still working to support over 220,000 residents facing food shortages.  Arkansas Times

  • Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino and his staff continue recruiting top junior college players despite his interim tag. They have offered scholarships to several prospects (including edge rushers, receivers, and defensive players) for the class of 2026 and beyond, and some players plan official visits soon.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
