BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bentonville-based outdoor apparel company LIVSN Designs launched its second equity crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder on Oct. 22 to raise funds for expanding its product offerings & scaling distribution. The company doubled its revenue, opened its flagship store, and earned B Corp certification since its 2022 campaign, and by Oct. 27 the campaign had raised over $350,000 from more than 98 investors.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Arkansas Country Blues and Stringband Festival will run from Nov. 14 through Nov. 16 in Springdale and offer free concerts, square dances, workshops, and music competitions. The event will kick off on Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Luther George Park — where the Chicot Cheetah Stringband will open for headliners Dom Flemons and the Traveling Wildfires.  The Free Weekly
  • Shiloh Museum of Ozark History will mark Native American Heritage Month with its sixth annual Native American Days on November 19 and 20 via a free virtual program on Zoom—featuring Native speakers and experts sharing Arkansas history and meeting state education frameworks for grades 5–7. The event is organized in partnership with the Arkansas Archaeological Survey and funded by the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation.  The Free Weekly
  • The University of Arkansas Museum will host a free collections open house from 2—4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at its Collection Facility at 2471 N. Hatch Ave.—offering snacks, fun activities and research displays featuring community partners such as the Arkansas Air and Military Museum, Arkansas Archeological Survey and Shiloh Museum of Ozark History.  University of Arkansas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas invites community members to a panel discussion on research opportunities at Chicago's Newberry Library, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 in Mullins Library room 439—panelists will explain the application process and available funding.  University of Arkansas
  • The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas was ranked No.20 by The Princeton Review for its entrepreneurship graduate program, up two spots from last year—marking a steady climb since debuting at No.35 in 2023. Faculty highlighted that hands-on classes and strong campus partnerships have helped boost the program’s rating.  University of Arkansas
  • The U of A community is invited to take part in several campus events—a short two-minute exercise survey, a museum collections open house on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 2—4, and a panel discussion on research at Chicago's Newberry Library on Monday, Nov. 17. U of A employees must finish mandatory training by Dec. 31 while recent data shows nearly one in four adult Arkansans used tobacco in the past 30 days—linked to chronic diseases.  University of Arkansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Fayetteville Natural Heritage Association has launched its Heartland Hillside campaign to raise funds for a bid on 25 acres of wooded land where Fayetteville Public Schools plans to build the new Ramay Junior High. Donations will help secure the property—valued for its native woodlands, natural springs, and wildlife habitat—or support other conservation projects if the offer is not accepted.  Fayetteville Flyer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • All University of Arkansas employees must complete mandatory system training by Dec. 31—if they do not, additional outreach will begin in January and those still noncompliant by Feb. 28 will miss out on salary increases.  University of Arkansas
  • Northwest Arkansas National Airport board will pause to reflect on a more prominent tribute for the late Uvalde Lindsey and other founders than the resolution passed Tuesday—board members said they plan to evaluate new proposals in upcoming meetings.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • State officials reported that the Arkansas treasury earned $99.2 million in the quarter ending Sept. 30, a slight drop from $101.9 million earned in the same quarter last year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • City officials on Monday voted unanimously to recommend establishing the Oak Grove Local Historic District near Wilson Park that covers about 10 acres and over 30 properties. With 37 of 47 property owners agreeing—nearly 79% in support—the proposal will be reviewed by the Historic District Commission before going to the City Council.  Fayetteville Flyer

  • University of Arkansas is asking all students, faculty, and staff who are 18 or older to take a two-minute online survey as part of its Exercise is Medicine—On Campus study on physical activity. Participants who opt in can receive an in-person or virtual fitness assessment to set personal activity goals.  University of Arkansas
