- ➤ 7Hills Homeless Center from Fayetteville held a cold-weather shelter training Tuesday night at First Church in Siloam Springs where local volunteers learned to operate warming shelters, respond to emergencies and support unsheltered neighbors during extreme cold. - ➤ Ricardo Enrique, playwright of Parts Per Million and Prophets, and Andrea Stolowitz, playwright of Recent Unsettling Events, were named co-winners of the Kernodle New Play Award on Nov. 18 by the University of Arkansas Department of Theatre—an honor that comes with a cash prize and script development opportunities. - ➤ The Speech and Debate Society won the program-wide civil discourse award at Arkansas Tech University this past weekend — earning 18 awards — to close out the fall season. The team will next compete in a virtual tournament — then travel to Jonesboro for the Southern Forensics Championship Tournament at the end of January — before taking a short break. - ➤ Alumnus Charlie Kinslow III has donated $50,000 to establish the Land of Opportunity Scholarship Endowment and the UAPD Excellence Fund to support students and campus safety at the University of Arkansas—his gift will expand scholarship access and fund police training initiatives—honoring Chief Steve Gahagans and the department's K-9 officer Charlie. - ➤ The University of Arkansas received over $1 million from alumnus Bruce Woody and his wife, Rebecca—along with $50,000 from alumna Debbie King and her husband and $25,000 from Bill and Sylvia Goodyear—for its Land of Opportunity Scholarship campaign.
