- ➤ Former science teacher Lauren Anderson started Calm+Confidence — a co-op that turns beekeeping into a tool for community growth and local business support — and her team now holds workshops that teach residents how to care for bee hives. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology will honor retiring University Professor John Rupe for his 41 years of service with a celebration at Mullins Library Event Space room 217 (southeast side corner of library) on Wednesday, Dec 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. His work on soybean sudden death syndrome and his dedication to teaching and leadership at the university are key reasons for the tribute. - ➤ Faculty from Fulbright College shared new ways to use AI in classes that help students work smarter and use technology ethically. They explained methods from different subjects such as languages, math, and science to guide students in responsible learning. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Students from the Creative Writing in Spanish course will read poems and exhibit drawings at 11 a.m. Dec 4 at the World Languages and Digital Humanities Studio — the pieces cover topics like mourning, anxiety and love — and light refreshments will be served. University of Arkansas
- ➤ University of Arkansas faculty members and students in the School of Human Environmental Sciences are partnering with Arkansas Tech to launch a $150,000 mobile camp for high school students from rural communities—set to begin summer 2026. The camp will offer hands-on learning in hospitality, nutrition and apparel while providing mentorship to guide students toward future careers. University of Arkansas

- ➤ University of Arkansas researchers in partnership with the Arkansas State Police invite residents to take the 2025 Traffic Safety Awareness Survey online — it takes about 8 to 10 minutes and gathers views on seat belt use, distracted driving, and speeding to guide future road safety measures. - ➤ The Oil and Gas Commission will decide in December whether to cap 22 oil wells—19 are owned by a company still operating in Arkansas and one by a company that owes more than $270,000 to the state. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Fayetteville launched a pilot housing program on November 18 that offers builders and property owners pre-reviewed, architect-designed home plans to speed up development—while preserving neighborhood character. - ➤ Pat Walker Health Center welcomed Dr. Suzanne Nicholas to its psychiatry team today to increase access to mental health care for U of A students, faculty and staff—Dr. Nicholas is board-certified in adult psychiatry with fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry and previously co-owned Fayetteville Psychiatry.
