COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Holiday events are scheduled from Dec. 5 to Dec. 14 — NWA Audio Theater’s Wizard of Oz performances will run at local venues while the Fayetteville Public Library hosts an author open house and festive workshops including Hot Cocoa with Santa and a Santa Drop across town.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Philanthropist Jim Blair, known for his generous donations to the Fayetteville Public Library and local causes, died Wednesday at age 90. His career as an attorney and civic leader helped shape community landmarks (including a recent documentary screening of his life).  Fayetteville Flyer

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Fayetteville economist said beef prices will remain steady as Tyson Foods plans to close a Nebraska plant and cut shifts at its Texas facility. The move is expected to have little effect on local supermarket pricing.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Natural Threads General Store opened in Fayetteville at 415 W Prairie St to sell locally made goods including candles, plants, t-shirts, and vintage items by local artists & makers. Owner Jonathan Holder hopes the shop will grow to support more local talents.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Fayetteville-chartered Arvest Bank named Jason England as chief credit administration officer and Jennifer Baker as chief information officer on Dec. 3. Baker, with over 20 years of tech and finance experience (relocating from Atlanta), will drive the bank’s tech upgrades while England, after 27 years, will manage credit operations.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fayetteville is bustling with holiday festivities this weekend from Dec. 5 to 7 — including dances at American Legion Post 27, a half marathon at UA, holiday markets in the downtown square, art and music events at local venues, and family outings like Santa Drop at the Military Museum.  5 News
  • The Community Creative Center will host an open house at 505 W. Spring Street on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. offering seasonal refreshments and handmade goods as it launches a holiday market that runs daily through Dec. 21.  Fayetteville Flyer

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Nov. 20, students hosted a teach in at UofA to question the constitutionality of Ten Commandments posters required by Act 573 — a law that mandates their display in classrooms. Stephen Caldwell and others noted the posters may influence students while university officials have yet to address the matter.  The Arkansas Traveler

HEALTH NEWS

  • Most insurance buyers can keep coverage affordable in 2026 by checking different plans before coverage begins. Silver plans will increase sharply per state policy (a practice called silver loading), so switching to bronze or gold plans may reduce monthly costs.  Arkansas Times

  • Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield began his tenure by recruiting 10 of the top 20 class of 2026 players from local high schools, including Danny Beale III, TJ Hodges, and Anthony Kennedy Jr. He will be introduced at his press conference (1:00 p.m. today).  5 News
