EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Georgette Madewell, supervisor of the U of A Student Financial Processing team for over 42 years, will retire Dec. 31. An open reception is set from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at Uptown West's first floor common area, 1001 E. Sain St. University of Arkansas
- ➤ Four School of Art faculty, staff and students received a $5,000 Individual Artist Fellowship from the Arkansas Arts Council. The honorees are Jean Schmitt (Foundations), Andrew Blackwell (technician), Elizabeth Muscari (communications) and MFA candidate Serena Caffrey, and they will be celebrated at a reception in Little Rock in February. - ➤ Students traveling home for winter break are advised to check weather conditions and avoid cell use while driving safely. - ➤ Recent local real estate deals saw a Cave Springs firm buy and sell 73 Tontitown lots for $15.76 million, a Centerton tunnel car wash for $6.43 million, a Rogers apartment complex for $5.3 million, and three Fayetteville homes for $4.4 million. NWA Business Journal
- ➤ On Monday, the Planning Commission approved Meadow Valley Trail student housing project with 630 bedrooms on 15 acres at West Elm Street near the UA agri farm. - ➤ Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield boosted his staff this week in Fayetteville by hiring Memphis offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey and senior analyst Nick Mathews—he is targeting running backs coach David Johnson, defensive coordinator Ron Roberts, and wide receivers coach Larry Smith for the Razorbacks.
