EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Homeless Vigil held at Fayetteville High School on Thursday, Dec. 11, Superintendent Mulford and Board President Hudson promised they would climb a construction crane (putting up a purple Bulldog flag) if the student council raised over $25,000 to support families in the school district.  5 News
  • Raluca Elena Golesteanu Jacobs from the International and Global Studies Program was nominated for the 25th H. Wereszycki and W. Felczak Award for her 2024 book on Habsburg Galicia and the Romanian Kingdom. She is teaching European Integration this fall and History courses next spring (HIST 36903, HIST 35503).  University of Arkansas
  • University of Arkansas now offers service learning study abroad programs in Australia, Rome, and the Bahamas this May and Summer. Students earn credit & can apply for scholarships with early 2026 deadlines.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas PBS will stop airing free PBS shows like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and NOVA on July 1, 2026 — it will rebrand as Arkansas TV and focus on local stories as funding cuts reduce its operations.  4029 News
  • City officials released survey and design plans on Thursday for updates to South School Avenue that will remove two lanes and add space for public use in 2027. Residents at the Rock Street Annex open house and online showed strong support for these changes & opportunities to improve safety.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Crews relocating a gas line will close the westbound lane on Maple Street (between Leverett and Garland avenues) from Dec. 15 to Jan. 2 to stay on track with Phase Two of the safety improvement project, and detour signage will guide drivers around the closure.  University of Arkansas
