COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chabad of Northwest Arkansas said extra law enforcement will secure a menorah lighting at Fayetteville Square tonight after a deadly attack in Australia. The center urged community members to attend in solidarity and announced added patrols at a Bentonville event on Dec. 21.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sarah Bramall, a two-time graduate and former extension agent, began her first semester today as a teacher in the Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology department at U of A (Dale Bumpers College). She will instruct in Applications of Microcomputers and lead student recruitment and engagement.  University of Arkansas
  • Honors students in the Food Matters course learned about insect protein from Tyson Foods’ sustainability advisor Keith Driver today. He explained how black soldier fly larvae turn food waste into valuable animal feed and discussed ongoing efforts to produce natural colorants from insects.  University of Arkansas
  • The University of Arkansas inducted 10 new Teaching Academy Fellows today, recognizing faculty such as Rocio Paez Ritter, Aysa Galbraith, Brandon Crisel, Alissa Blair, Rachel Glade, Lance Cheramie, Meredith Neville-Shepard, Alex Nelson, and Heather Sprandel (with Casey Owens noted as not pictured) for excellence in teaching across various disciplines.  University of Arkansas
  • University Professor Richard Cassady was named the 2025 Imhoff Award winner for outstanding teaching at U of A after a ceremony held on Dec. 1 (highlighting his commitment to student mentorship). Professors Dave Bostwick and Leigh Southward were honored as finalists.  University of Arkansas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington County Clerk's Office recorded marriage license applications from Dec. 4-10, including couples from Fayetteville and neighboring towns (Springdale, Mountainburg, Prairie Grove). Local records show a busy week for civic documentation.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The city extended its extreme weather response Sunday night as freezing temperatures persisted. Residents in need went to Potter's House at Jefferson Elementary (612 S. College Ave) at 5 p.m., then took buses to Genesis Church and 7hills for overnight shelter with meal services.  5 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent inspections at several local restaurants in Benton County identified multiple food safety violations — including improper storage and poor hygiene practices. Inspectors noted issues at establishments in Bentonville, Rogers and Centerton earlier this month that could impact customer health.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas gymnastics team held a 'dress rehearsal' event Sunday at Bud Walton Arena, performing routines in an intrasquad meet (the team prepares to start competition in January).   • Freshman guard Darius Acuff scored 20 points to help Arkansas beat Texas Tech 93-86 on Saturday, with crucial plays in the final minutes turning the game around & securing their second straight win over a ranked team.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Razorbacks are expected to hire Clint Trickett as quarterbacks coach and target Marion Hobby for defensive line coach under first-year head coach Ryan Silverfield today, as Trickett leaves his role at Jacksonville State plus Hobby brings NFL coaching experience.   Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
